everything is one

The Nuu-chah-nulth people have occupied their traditional territories since time immemorial. Through contact, residential schools and the detrimental effects of colonization, many teachings went underground.

We are part of a shared vision between the local First Nations, the First Nations Health Authority and the Ministry of Health to create a model of care that prioritizes bringing Indigenous ways back into health care systems. With guidance from Hesquiaht, Ahousaht, Tla-o-qui-aht, Ucluelet and Toquaht First Nations, the West Coast PCI was created to steward the initiative and ground the work in Nuu-chah-nulth teachings.

"This logo design powerfully reflects this health-based organization’s dedication to community health and wellness. The orca whale is a revered symbol in the Nuu-Chah-Nulth culture that represents not only leadership and strength but also the deep sense of community and collective support imperative to our way of life. Orcas are known for their close-knit pods and cooperative nature, embodying the spirit of working together and mutual care. They are widely regarded as a symbol of love and care for one another. By integrating a human hand as the whale's tail, the logo highlights the transformative and nurturing aspects of the organization’s work, emphasizing the compassionate touch that fosters trust and connection. This design reinforces that, at the heart of the organization’s mission, is a commitment to the well-being of families and individuals, driven by a profound sense of empathy and community.
